Freeky
Cleen are a one man band from Ukraine, 'formed' in 2004 when Ilya
Polishchuk (all instruments and vocals) and Alex Okhrimenko (tech)
decided to utilise the latter's newly built studio and, whilst they
were at it, set up their own record label at the same time.
The result of this hard work is "Augean Stables", the second album from
Freeky Cleen which is currently available as a totally legitimate, free
download from the bands website. Distributing the album in this way is
certainly a bold, ambitious move as I would have thought the Led
Zeppelin informed hard rock within these grooves would be able to
garner some kind of commercial viability, if marketed in the right way.
I don't think its too harsh to point out
that there's not a lot of originality displayed here. Aside from Led
Zep there's also a strong Aerosmith influence on songs such as
"Corporation Dance" and "Male Chauvinist Pig" to be found, all of which
gives the songs a welcome, familiar feel rather than just sounding like
a total steal.
Comparisons aside "Augean
Stables" is very enjoyable and showcases Ilya and Alexs talents nicely
and when you can have this professionally produced set of songs on your
ipod for nothing other than a fifteen minutes of your time and a few
megabytes of your broadband bandwidth then theres really no excuse for
not checking out Freeky Cleen.
